What do you do after you beat the campaign?
Forget "what do you do after you reach lvl 20" as it wasn't that hard to reach level 20, and its not like I cared since lvls barely mattered, but what do you do at endgame? I have Nightfall, and right when i got to level 20 is when the real story opened up and all the grind ended. Well... theres no such revelation when you beat the game, as you're sent back to Kamadan with everything completely open ended.
At the start when your grinding to level 20 you want everything accessed to you as you seemed 2 be so strapped down... but at endgame you seem to want things a lot more streamed. If this is all to this mmorpg, i have to say it doesn't have much life as almost every other mmorpg out there (though thats probably a good thing). Before reaching this state, there was almost NO grind whatsoever (making it unlike ANY mmorpg i've ever played) but more like 1 seemingly impossible mission/quest after another. Well now that I've finished that, is all thats left the grind that i seemingly skipped in the campaign? Other than armor, is all thats left sunspear promotions, lightbringer promotions, and titles? I noobishly thought that after beating the game, i now get to go to some high end place like FoW (but soon found that America never has favor...) Mabye pve was like the "campaign" of a FPS or strategy game, and PVP is "multiplayer" :P . I know that PVP was intended to be the endgame of PVE but it was so good they had to give it to everyone, so all thats left is to keep buffing my character to get the edge in pvp? (though it seems retarted because I was first a complete PVP player when pve was a boring grind, and know that you're handicapping yourself using a pve player unless you have a huge mass of skills and large array of armor to use). Is this just the end of my pve? Is Anet telling me to "quit" playing and go play pvp or stop playing this game (or, of course, to buy another chapter :P) EDIT: kind of frustrated that there wasn't any endgame stuff and just about to quit pve guild wars except for use to look cool in RA, i stumbled upon the Domain of Anguish in guild wiki. Its pretty tight but looks like a time consuming version of the rest of the realm of torment (as if that wasn't bad enough lol) The reply to this post also gave great ideas (and it was a long reply) for title crazed ppl (and ppl with factions, which isnt me) to do, which is great, ty. The game is generally balanced in a way that bypasses "grinding" unless a player so chooses to grind, so for the trip to level 20, you're sent on a series of quests and missions that will generally train you not only experience-wise, but also help accustom you to strategy-building and general gameplay. Once you've breached that max-level barrier and the world of elite skills and strategic gameplay fully opens up to you, that's when the game really gets its interest. The story tends to develop much more fluidly from there and allows for many other tasks to be completed, not just those assigned to you by NPCs. Sure, the linear objective of the game is to complete all of those missions leading up to the grand final battle and saving the world (etc) as heroes, but there are numerous other activities to take part in! Here are a few example of things I can think of, off the top of my head: Customizing your characters: Many players take pride in the appearance of their characters (or heroes) and will go to great lengths to afford dazzling equipment, including frequent Fissure of Woe and Underworld fighting to construct the most expensive armors in the game. They're just as protective as standard max armors are, but everyone likes to be unique. Alliance Battles: It seems like there are always players interested in the wide-scale battlefield chaos of Alliance Battles, provided you own the Factions chapter. Leaping into a party of 12 (3 groups of 4) to defend and capture numerous strategic points on a map certainly makes for some encounters unique to this type of PvP. Exploration titles: If you're not really into PvP, this is another crowd favourite for those looking for more in PvE. A 100% exploration title is a symbol of pride to the players who've achieved them, and the interesting places that you'd never otherwise encounter make for a great screenshot scrapbook for later. ( If you collect scenes, that is; I do. :> ) Protector titles: Not challenged enough by the missions in the game? Try scoring all of the "bonus" or Master's rewards in each of them. Doing so not only adds life to the game, but it requires careful planning which could in turn help you become a better player. Completing that task also earns you the Protector title for that chapter. Hard Mode: I know this isn't out yet, so it's probably not a viable answer, but news from Guild Wars staff has poked around the introduction of a higher game difficulty in the very near future. From Random Arena to Treasure Hunting to becoming Kind Of A Big Deal - there's always something interesting to try! Combining your account with another campaign is totally recommended - if you like PvE more, I recommend Prophecies over Factions. You could even create a new character - see what it's like trying to monk for a busy party under siege, or take up arms and draw fire on yourself as a warrior, putting faith into your allies to back you up! And, uh, after writing this, I feel like I'm writing an advertisement for GW. I'm just really enthusiastic about it, I guess. So much stuff to do, and they're always updating and adding new stuff. plenty of titles to go after if you want to be rewarded for grind: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Titles and of course all the end game areas. FoW and UW are pretty obvious, although favor for america is limited to mostly at night. there is all the DoA content, which can be rather challenging and will take up a good bit of time. there is also the content from the other chapter. if you get your hands on another chapter, it effectively double your content. add in factions end game (warren and the deep) and there is even more content. also, why not roll a new char. learn to play new classes, unlock more skills, ect... |

Learn to play other character classes. The game gets a lot more interesting when you learn how the other classes work and, more importantly, how they work together. You can gain some of this knowledge from watching and interacting with other characters/players, using heroes, etc., but it's not the same. For example, going through the game as a warrior and going through as a monk are two COMPLETELY different games.

In addition to the things already mentioned:
I can't imagine even imagine starting to be bored with Nightfall after I finish it. There's just too many avenues of exploration and exploitation. |
